Product Description

ALGIMYCIN - PWF is an acidified, copper-based algaecide used to control planktonic algae and cyanobacteria. Controlling certain algae species with the use of Algimycin can aid in the reduction of taste and odor problems associated with 2-methylisoborneol and geosmin production from these organisms.

  • Effective in hard water applications
  • Targets red algal blooms

Product Label     SDS Sheet

 ANSI-NSF 60 Safety Certified

No wait time is required after application of Algimycin before using water from the treated area for human consumption, livestock watering, irrigation, swimming or other use. Algimycin is copper based and 100% water soluble. Use it to treat irrigation systems, ponds, drinking water for both animal and human use, reservoirs, lakes, canals and ditches. Safe to use algaecide to treat blue green algae species such as Filamentous and Planktonic algae.

Anabaena and Microcystis

Filamentous Algae Species Including:

Pithophora, andSpirogyra

 Application

Dosage rates and frequency of treatment should be based upon the sensitivity of species present, the extent/biomass of the bloom and the depth of the growth present in the water column Application rates range from 0.32 to 2.66 gal per acre foot of water for planktonic and filamentous algae, and 2.3 to 3.19 gal per acre foot of water for Chara and Nitella. For Reservoirs, Lakes, Ponds: If treated water is destined for use as drinking water, the applied metallic copper must not exceed 1 ppm.

  • For best results, begin applications early in the season when algae and/or cyanobacteria problems become evident and water temperature above 60ºF or 15.6ºC.
  • Before applying, dilute this product with enough water to ensure even distribution with the type of equipment being used.
  • Break up floating mats of filamentous algae or scum formations before spraying or while application is being made.
  • This product will disperse within the water column, however, apply as evenly as possible throughout the target area.

Algimycin® Application Rate Example*:

 Algimycin Example:

  • Sample 100ft x 100ft Lakeshore Lot (.23 Acre) - 4 Ft average depth*.
         Calculations as:  0.23 acres X 4ft = 0.92 acre/ft.

Amount of Algimycin required (low dose 0.32 gal X 0.92 acre/ft) = 0.30 gal
Amount of Algimycin required (high dose 2.66 gal X 0.92 acre/ft) = 2.45 gal (planktonic/filamentous)

  • Sample  148ft x 148ft Pond (.50 Acre) - 3 Ft average depth*.
         Calculations as: 0.50 acres X 3ft = 1.5 acre/ft.

Amount of Algimycin required (low dose 2.3 gal X 1.5 acre/ft) = 3.45 gal (Chara and Nitella)
Amount of Algimycin required (high dose 3.19 gal X 1.5 acre/ft) = 4.75 gal (Chara and Nitella).

For Best Results

Begin applications early in the season when algae and/or cyanobacteria problems become evident and/or when water temperatures are above 60°F or 15.6°C. Begin applications early in the day under calm, bright conditions. Contact time should be at least 3 hours. Dilute with 10 parts water to ensure even distribution. Break up floating mats of filamentous algae or scum formations before spraying or while application is being made.

In regions where ponds freeze in winter, treatment should be done six (6) to eight (8) weeks before expected freeze time to prevent masses of decaying algae under an ice cover.

Visible reduction in algae growth and discoloration should be observed within 24 to 48 hours following application with full effects of treatments sometimes taking 4 - 10 days depending upon algae forms, weather, degree of infestation and water temperatures. Retreat as re-growth begins to appear. Allow 2 weeks between consecutive treatments and/or follow state and label guidelines.

Heavy, out of control growth may require more than one application or physical removal to gain control. Add Bio Boost Enzyme to the tank mix to increase the effectiveness of the algae treatment. Treat heavy infestations in sections to avoid oxygen depletion

Chemical Application Best Practices

  •  Always read and follow the label.
  • Treat ponds and lakes in sections, treating no more than ½ of a pond’s surface at a time.
  • During hot weather or when treating heavy growth, treat no more than ¼ of your pond at a time.
  • Wait the full 14 days before re-applying. This helps lower the risk losing fish due to low oxygen during hot weather or when treating heavy growth.
  • Once the algae or weeds have browned & died, use a rake to remove as much dead material as possible.
  • Apply Bio Boost Muck Digesting Pellets 5 days after treatment to accelerate the breakdown of dead plant material left behind that would otherwise contribute to the buildup of muck in your pond.
  • Use preventative maintenance products to reduce sunlight and/or nutrients.
